Phil Lagan Wins Soggy Enduro:
Langford BC., November 15, 2009:
On a very wet and rainy Sunday afternoon, Phil Lagan drove to the win in a 200 lap Enduro race at Western Speedway. Mike McPeek and Terry Barton led the field of fifteen cars for the start of a grueling two hours or 200 laps of racing with McPeek gaining the lead for the first eight laps. Cam Stanfield went into the lead on lap nine and seemed to be on cruise control for the early stages of the race. Behind him McPeek, Kevin Hood, Garnet Bartlett, and Jake Spring took up the next four positions. On lap fourteen, Jean-Luc Lagan and Phil Lagan had moved up to run fifth and sixth putting pressure on the front runners. By lap twenty-seven, Phil moved up to run third behind McPeek and the leader Stanfield. On lap forty, Phil took over the second spot putting McPeek back to third while Jean-Luc remained in fourth, ahead of Spring. Over the next several laps, this line up remained pretty well intact until Stanfield entered the pits on lap seventy-eight handing the lead to Phil followed by McPeek, Jean-Luc, Spring, and Wayne Boyd taking up the fifth spot. On lap eighty-three, Garnet Bartlett went by Boyd to take over the fifth spot in the running order while up front Jean-Luc took over the second spot seven laps later. The running order again stayed intact until Spring took over the third spot on lap one hundred and sixty-four knocking McPeek back one spot. The same lap saw a familiar name in racing as Cody Aumen moved into the fifth spot with four time Sprint Car Champion Scott Aumen in his pits. On lap one hundred seventy-five disaster struck the last event winner Jean-Luc Lagan as his fuel tank was dragging on the track ending his run. This left Phil still leading followed by Spring now in second, Bartlett, McPeek, and Aumen. On lap one hundred ninety-eight, Phil Lagan suffered a stop and go penalty but it didn't matter as Phil had the lead by several laps and went on to the victory followed by Jake Spring, Garnet Bartlett, Mike McPeek, and Cody Aumen rounding out the top five. The race was only interrupted by a yellow flag about five times to reset tires after a collision by sliding cars on the rain slicked track. At Victory Square, Phil stated: "This is fun, this is a great time."
The next race in the Steve Copp Construction sponsored Winter Schedule is December 13th. |
