THURSDAY NIGHT HORNETS AND BUMBLE BEES presented by Steve Copp Construction

Copp Wins Hornet Thunder:

Langford, BC, June 26, 2008:

Western Speedway again presented another great show with Thursday night Thunder. Twenty-one rookies and  thirty-three pro drivers qualified last evening and the field is still growing. New faces continue to join the ranks each week and last evening was no exception as Geoff Morris, from the Sportsman Series, and Gord Morris, a long time racer, joined the field.
Three dashes opened the program with Jordan Bey winning the Rookie segment, Lois Lagan taking the Bumblebee Dash, and Rory Smith, from the Stock Car Series, taking the Hornet Dash. No less than ten Heat races were completed each running ten laps and every one had its share of excitement. The fourth Heat was especially thrilling as Robin Trotter worked from the back of the pack almost exclusively on the outside groove and took the lead and the win as the last few laps dwindled away. In his second Heat he, again, came from the back and staged a good race with Geoff Morris and eventually wound up in second spot. Last year’s Champion Daryl Crocker and Steve Copp put on a great race in the tenth Heat with Crocker winning in the end.
Twenty-one cars took the green flag for the start of the Rookie Feature and within the first four laps there were four lead changes. Steve Parkinson displayed a very fast car and made the best of it. Thirteen laps down he went through the middle of two more competitors going into turn one and came away with the lead. Even though cars were spinning all around, and a caution with a pileup on both corners at the same time, didn’t slow him down in his quest for the win.
With so many cars on tap, the officials called for a B-Main with the top two finishers moving on to the A Main event. Jessica Hall ran first for several laps until she got caught up with another car and had to pit for a tire.
Steve Copp moved to the front even though he got a few hip checks along the way and held off Darrell Midgley and Daryl Crocker and won his first Feature of the year. With these series, expect lots of bumping, collisions, and three wide racing as there is a lot of fast machines and each driver looking to get to the front in a confined area. Again, the program goes very quickly and you will not get stung at the ticket booth or concessions. This is truly a family affair with lots of entertainment. The next race in this series is only one week away July 3rd. The next race, at Western Speedway, is also rough and tumble as the Demo Classes hit the track Saturday, June 28th, with the Demo Trucks, Demo Cars, Figure 8s, Mini Vans, and the Claimers. Western Speedway has also added a Total Destruction with fireworks to celebrate Canada Day on this date.
