THURSDAY NIGHT HORNETS AND BUMBLE BEES presented by Steve Copp Construction July 10th, 2008 Thursday Night Thunder: Langford, BC, July 10, 2008: Story and Pictures by Ken Keating                 Western Speedway presented another in the Hornet & Bumblebee Series with sixty cars set to do battle on the inside oval. No less than five Dashes and eleven Heat races began the night’s entertainment with the banging and spins that are customary with this series.                 Cameron Stanfield started a good night by winning his Dash, the first Heat, and the seventh Heat race. Starting fifth in the C Feature, he took over the lead on the second lap and drove to the checkered flag. Garrett Smith held the second spot from the third lap through lap nine and lost it for one lap to Mike McPeek. Rose Root then went to work and took over second on lap eleven and followed Stanfield to the final flag. Smith fell back as far as fifth but battled hard and came back for a third place finish.                 Bill Peacey led for the first thirteen laps in the A Main that saw twenty cars take the green flag for a twenty lap race. Phil Lagan dogged Peacey as both drivers came into heavy back markers. Lagan used this to his advantage using the outside groove and took the lead six laps from the checkered flag and didn’t look back. Daryl Cahill took the second spot while Phil Calnan grabbed the third spot after passing Peacy with only four laps left.                 Brent Smith and Steve Parkinson took the first two spots in the B Main event with both drivers going to the A Main.                 The night’s program was not without some heavy hitting as four cars crashed during the Heats, with all drivers able to continue. Every race had its fair share of trading paint and spin outs making for some exciting action on every corner. The next race is Saturday night Hornet Car Nationals and these warriors return to the normal Thursday Night Thunder on July 17th. Come out and watch all the action.
