Phil Lagan Wins Enduro

In a test of endurance for both cars and drivers, Western Speedway hosted just such a race Wednesday night. Most of the cars race primarily in the Hornet and Bumblebees Thursday Night Thunder series but most drivers wanted to participate and tackle the big track with a fast chicane on the front stretch and a tight chican that entered and also exited the on the backstretch. This chicane proved to be a challenge as three drivers rolled in that chicane.
The first race was just for the ladies and for a distance of twenty-six laps. Carrie Shaw led from the outset and did so for eighteen laps. She was challenged throughout by the #13 car driven by Cassandra Musfelt and Jacklyn Orza in the 007 car. Shaw and Musfelt built a pretty good lead until the yellow came out on lap eight. Cole Schuurman Amanda Horgen got the #94 car up on the tires and had to be pulled out. This allowed the field to bunch up and the leaders now had Orza to close on the bumper of Musfelt with Kathy Dickenson behind her.
On the restart, Shaw again held the lead. A few laps later Musfelt got tangled up and hit the wall. She was able to continue but had lost her position to Orza with Sharon Constantine putting pressure on her.
On lap nineteen, Orza made the pass for the lead and took the checkered flag followed by Shaw and Constantine.
Lou Veld and Scott Milne shared the front row and led twenty cars to the green flag for 200 laps or the two-hour time limit allowed. This race not only would test the endurance of the drivers and cars but also attrition would certainly take its toll.
Richard Milne led the first two laps until he was passed by Phil Calnan. Darrell Midgley moved up to take over the second spot and stayed on Richard’s bumper lap after lap. On lap seven Tyler Clough caught the tires in the chicane and rolled his car bringing out a red flag. On the restart, Daryl Crocker moved in to take over the third spot and on lap seventeen passed Midgley for second. Phil Lagan had moved up to take over fourth spot and these four drivers stayed pretty close for several laps. On lap sixty seven, Calnan bumped another car pushing his fender into the front tire and he had to go to the pits turning the lead over to Crocker followed by Lagan, and now Gordon Carosella. On lap seventy-nine Cole Schuurman put his car on the roof going through the chicane. On lap eighty-seven Lagan took over the lead pushing Crocker back to second. From lap eighty-seven through lap one thirty eight, Crocker tried everything to get the lead. Aaron Wilkie was in the battle up front trying to get by Crocker. On lap one thirty-five Crocker got the lead and led for four laps with time running out. On the last lap Lagan got the lead just in time for the checkered flag. Crocker held on for second with Wilkie in third.
