THURSDAY NIGHT HORNETS AND BUMBLE BEES presented by Steve Copp Construction July 24th, 2008 By Ken Keating, Illusion Photography                 After a grueling schedule the Hornets and Bumblebees returned to the Langford oval Thursday night. The number of cars were down somewhat but still enough to make for very interesting racing. The Hornet classes raced a week ago in their normal Thursday night slot, again on the One Hot Weekend event racing both Friday and Saturday night, the Wednesday night Enduro, and last but not least, last night.                 In the rookie feature, Brandon Phillips held the lead from the drop of the green flag while a battle between Jesse Scott, Cassandra Musfelt, Rose Root, and Tyler Woods developed behind him. After a couple of caution flags came out, Phillips still led with Musfelt and Woods keeping the pressure on. On lap fifteen, Woods made the pass for second sending Musfelt to third. Mike McPeek took over third on lap eighteen with Reece Crocker now moving up to fourth. On lap twenty-seven, Woods took the lead but couldn’t hold off the determined Phillips. On the last lap Phillips again moved by Woods and took the checkered flag by mere inches. McPeek held on to the third spot.                 Twenty-three cars started the expert feature with Rich Hargraves and Steve Parkinson holding the front row. Daryn Cahill took over the lead only three laps gone. Phil Lagan moved into the second spot with only four laps complete and put pressure on the leader for fifteen laps. On lap twenty, Darryl Cahill took over the second spot for two laps, then lost it to brother Daryn for three laps. Lagan regained the second spot on lap twenty-five for four laps until Dean Bowers grabbed the spot for two laps. Daryn Cahill continued to lead while Lagan took over the second spot again on lap thirty-one sending Bowers back to third. That is the way they took the checkered flag in yet another entertaining evening of Hornet car racing.
