THURSDAY NIGHT HORNETS AND BUMBLE BEES presented by Steve Copp Construction August 21st, 2008 By Ken Keating, Illusion Photography Time is running out for the Hornets and Bumblebees for the 2008 season and everyone battled for positions during the Thursday Night Thunder program in order to gain as many points as possible. Again they ran three Dashes, ten Heats, and two B Mains and two A Mains before the night was finished.                 Fourteen cars took the green flag for the rookies B-Main with fifteen laps marking the distance to run. The top four cars would transfer to the A-Main so the run to the front would be hectic. John Anderov led the field for the start but point’s leader Cassandra Mussfelt led for the first two laps until Lance May took over second and held that position through lap eight. Mussfelt again moved into second spot on lap nine. Meanwhile Kevin Hood moved to third on lap nine and held through lap twelve as Marty Antcil took that spot on lap thirteen. When the checkered flag dropped it was Anderov, Mussfelt, Antcil, and Hood rounding out the top four.                 Todd Dunlop took over the lead from Jason Corky on lap four in the rookies A-Main. Cody Loughton ran in the third spot for the first three laps until John Broughton took that spot on lap six. Garrett Smith moved in to take over the second spot on lap fourteen while Tyler Woods took the fourth spot on lap nine. Dunlop hung on for the win followed by Smith and Broughton.                 Rocky Sandu led the Expert B-Main followed by Peter Gray-Owen until lap eight. Steve Copp came through traffic to take the second spot while Ian Grey-Owen moved into third on lap eleven. Carl Carlson, driving for Darrell Midgley, moved into the fourth spot on lap thirteen. These four cars would transfer to the A-Main.                 Caleb Van Bree led start to finish in the expert Feature event. Rory Smith dogged him trying every which way to get by for the lead. Meanwhile Daryl Cahill was making his move toward the front as well as Phil Calnan and others. On lap ten Cahill moved around Smith for second and put pressure on Van Bree. He tried to get by the leader but had to be content to finish second followed by Smith and Calnan in a very good race throughout.                 The points leaders are Cassandra Mussfelt with the Bumblebees, Garnett Bartlett had the lead in rookie points, and Phil Lagan led the Expert points race going into this race. The last race on Thursday night is August 28th for this season so who will we crown Champion is yet to be decided. There is the race on Friday and Saturday as part of the Hot August Nights program and the Hornet Series will be taking part in this event. Come out and cheer for your favorite driver as they race the track and for the Championship.
