Ray Anderosov Wins A Thriller
Ray Anderosov piloted his Chev Monte Carlo to a thrilling victory in the Western Region Rentals Stock Car Feature Event Saturday night at Victoria’s Western Speedway. The Dwarf Cars and IMS 4 Mini Stocks provided the excitement for the rest of the program on a clear kool night in BC’s Capital City.
Bob Pridge won the Dwarf Car Trophy Dash followed by Bruce Garside and Gord Kraus. Rod Rendle was first in the IMS 4 Mini Stock Trophy Dash followed by Lois Pollard Grant and Ken Schuurman. Josh Rhiaumme led Trevor Emery and Mike Dionne to the flag in the Stock Car B Trophy Dash while Ray Anderosov took the checkered flag ahead of Brian Clutchey and Mark Parkinson in the A Trophy Dash for Stock Cars.
Heat Race winners included Steve Jaques and Jeremy Stevens in the Dwarf Car Series, Jason Woodske and Ken Schuurman were winners in the IMS 4 Mini Stock Division, with Darrel Morneau and Kerry Steen winning the Stock Car Heats.
Steve Jaques and Miles Maxie shared the front row for the start of the 20 lap Dwarf Car Feature Event. Maxie led the first four laps until a yellow came out for a spin in turn four. On the restart, Maxie brought the field to the green and behind him Bob Greenaway challenge for the second spot while Gord Kraus took over the fourth spot. Greenaway and Maxie battled side by side for several laps with Greenaway getting the edge on lap ten. When Maxie wiggled a bit, Kraus and Stevens seized the chance taking over second and third respectively.
Another yellow came out on lap 12 but once the field got the green, Kraus used one lap to dart inside Greenaway and took over the lead. Stevens took over the second spot on lap 17 and challenged Kraus for the last few laps but had to settle for second. Greenaway held on to the third spot.
Twelve IMS 4 Mini Stocks took the green flag for the start of twenty-five laps of close racing. Giles Parenteau got out to a good lead until a yellow on lap 6 bunched the field. One lap later, another yellow came out for a spin in turn one. Parenteau still had the lead but he had Woodske, Rendle, and Ken Schuurman all bunched up looking for the lead.
On lap nine, Woodske went around and allowed Schuurman to take over the second spot with Sean Constantine moving into third. On lap 13, Schuurman made the pass for the lead while Constantine took over the third spot now in a battle with Chad Dobranski. On lap 23, Constantine darted to the inside of Parenteau taking over the second spot. Ken Schuurman took the checkered flag, his first in awhile as he took a couple of years off, followed by Constantine and Parenteau.
Kerry Steen had the pole with Hugh Gurney occupying the outside row for the start of the 50 lap Western Region Rental Stock Car Feature Event. Steen grabbed the lead on the first turn followed by Jeff Cesari, Curt Haugen, Anderosov, and Brian Clutchey. The top five positions remained intact bumper to bumper until a yellow came out for a spin in turn four on lap 17.
Steen led on the restart but on lap 19, Cesari took over the lead sending Steen to second. Haugen made his move three laps later for second. On lap 24, Anderosov went to the inside of Steen but now had Brian Clutchey moving up as well. Ryan Wade also made the move into the top six and started to mix it up with the front runners.
Coming through turn four Cesari went around with Haugen checking up and leaving the door open for Anderosov and Clutchey to move into first and second respectively with 32 laps in the books. After the short caution, Anderosov led the field again with Clutchey moving to the outside for the lead. As the laps were running out, Clutchey and Anderosov waged a great battle back and forth with Wade, Haugen and Mark Parkinson now in as tight as it gets up front. Over the last few laps, these drivers put on a clinic leading one by a bumper and the next lap another driver leading by a bumper for the top five spots.
Anderosov, with the crowd on their feet, grabbed the win with Wade following through in second, Clutchey hung on for third, Haugen fourth, and Parkinson fifth. After the dust settled, Clutchey revealed a plug wire came off and he crossed the line on seven cylinders.
