Western Speedway 2008 Sportsman Rules
Katana Sportsman Tour rules apply except with the following exceptions:
WEIGHT
- All cars will weigh minimum 3100 lbs, max. 57% left with the driver.
- An additional 50 lbs to be added if track width exceeds 66" (measured center to center)
- Camaro copy fabricated clips are allowed but two 25 lbs blocks of lead must be attached to each side of the clip, a minimum of 12" forward of the left foot box. The total weight and left side weight is still the same. The purpose of this rule is to equalize the difference between a fabricated clip and a stock clip. All pick up points on the fabricated clip other than the upper A arm mounts must be the same as stock or the car will be deemed illegal.
Shocks
-only steel bodied shocks are allowed. No aluminum parts allowed on shocks.
-$200 claim per shock is in effect.
Tires
- Goodyear 2464 and 2665 8" A400 compound tires only. Tires must be branded and purchased from Alien Race Cars. Depending on the number of races scheduled, a limit on how many tires can be used will be implemented.
Engines
-In addition to the existing engine rules the following engine combination may be used. If this package is used the total weight of the car will be reduced by 100 lbs
-GM sealed crate motor part #88958604 These motors are sealed right from GM with break off bolts. Any tampering with the bolts or altering motor in any way will result in indefinite suspension.
If the crate motor is used only these parts may be used on that engine.
-Schoenfeld 135VCM3 crate motor headers are the only headers allowed.
-The only approved carb is a Holley 0-80541-1 650 cfm 4 barrel crate motor carb made for this application
-Quarter master 5.5 V-drive clutch package with a reverse starter and aluminum bell housing part #100-28590ZZ
-If an Automatic transmission is used of any configuration add 75# (With Crate Only)
Disclaimer
In the interest of equalizing competition, the promoter reserves the right to alter the rules (weight break) to make the crate motor competitive. The Crate motor is the wave of the future and everything will be done to ease the transition and make things equal. As the high dollar motors wear out the hope is that everyone will switch to the more economical crate motor. To make this happen and have everybody equal, the weight break will be increased on the crate motor package yearly. The purpose of this is to let everyone use up their existing engines, but when they break or require rebuilding there will be no point. It will be cheaper to switch to the crate motor package. |
